Tiger Tiger
Just had the best Tiger sighting of my life. I was driving to the Tribal NGO place in the jeep when this large male tiger crossed the road right in front of me. I stopped the jeep and switched off the engine. This tiger walked into some nice green grass, glared at me for more then a min and all along flicking it's tail. Then slowly he melted into the forest. I'm kicking myself for not having my camera with me at that time.

Anyway was a lovely sighting and something that I will remember for a long time to come. Also got to see the tiger after almost 2 months.

Have learn't the hard way too - I never step out of the house without at-least my Video cam even in the city - have missed a Grasshopper Warbler and a party of 3 Besra and now no one believes that I ever saw them :(

But no sweat about the tiger - come to Kanha for a week and you can catch them in all thier moods...

Doesnt Kanha bores you after a while when it comes to sighting tigers? It just doesnt excite after a while. There are too many of them and these mahouts on elephants back chase them and dont let them live in peace. :(

My friend who went Jim Corbett coudnt even sight a single tiger in two days, whereas we sighted atleast 3 in 2 days.

Spotting a tiger in Kanha during Winter may be much more difficult due to thick vegetation.

Hmmm.... you have not been following Tarique's journal?

BTW Tigers are not too fond of very thick vegetation - so it is more likely that in winters or rather just after rains you will get tigers ambling along the roads...

I work as a naturalist at a place called BR hills which is one of the best wildlife santuary in south India. You are welcome to take my job.. as there is a big shortage of people here.

Hey Kalyan,

I'm trying to plan a trip to BR Hills with some of my college buddies but we are unable to contact JLR - any help that you can give will be appreciated.
